'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Families of Unaccounted For Teenagers Await News After Ski Resort Inferno
The relatives of teens lost after a devastating fire at a bar in a Switzerland's ski resort are confronting an excruciating wait for answers and appealing for clues about their family members publicly.
The inferno devastated the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Alps of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Circulated video show the roof structure catching alight as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have stated that it could take considerable time to formally name the those who perished of the disaster, which claimed the lives of four dozen individuals and hurt another over a hundred. Officials noted on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with work continuing to identify the remaining few.
In the waiting period, relatives have been posting on the internet to plead for clues about their loved ones who were in attendance that fateful night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are not yet determined, according to an appeal from his parent.
The resident of a town near the city, explained to a local newspaper that she had returned to Lausanne to see if he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the equivalent search in Bern, but did not locate him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a horror. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. It's horrific," she said.
She added that some of his peers had been found with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's government has confirmed that a number of of its young people are still unaccounted for.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, who hailed from Genoa but now residing in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is dead, without mentioning the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who carried with him passion and true sportsmanship."
His parent, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An representative has indicated that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also among the missing. His mother told reporters that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and found himself at the bar.
"Someone with him informed me they fled after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he couldn't see him anymore," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
One of his educators commented, "I remember his kindness and smile, combined with great responsibility. Often offer to get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek nationality but lives full-time in the country, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to reports.
Her sibling has published an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the teenager or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her country of origin say they are closely watching the developments.
