Catherine's Annual Yuletide Carol Concert Spotlights Unsung Heroes

Her Royal Highness has organised her yearly festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have supported their local areas.

The sizable congregation will enjoy a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Compassion and Love

The focus of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Among the guests will be Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any hope for reward or acknowledgement, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the festive gathering.

A Gradual Return

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she talked about recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the former royal to broaden opportunities for music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Wales, has been helped by the trust, with funding assisting with instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be performing at tonight's service.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for local food charities.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with handcrafted festive wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Among the musical performers will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

This annual carol service will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
